We turn six

Six years. We are sitting here and can hardly believe it ourselves.

We started on 30 August 2020, a Sunday. That day we checked roughly every half hour whether anyone was really ordering. This year 30 August falls on a Sunday again, for the first time since that very first day.

The first thing that comes to mind is a thank you to you. Without the people who wrote to us about what worked and what did not, half of our products would not exist. It is as simple as that.

We have tried quite a lot

We started in Berlin in 2020, with skincare. And since we were at it anyway, we carried straight on with the rest.

A deodorant in paper, without the plastic inner lining that many paper deodorants have inside. Cream jars made from Sulapac that looked like plastic and were industrially compostable. Gift sets made from mycelium. Solid shampoo and shower gel. Razors made from recycled ocean plastic, each with its own pattern, because the sea does not deliver the same colour twice. And at some point the mousse in kraft paper and glass, because that was exactly what you had asked for.

Not all of it was perfect.

Some of it went down wonderfully. With other things the idea was better than the application, and you wrote and told us so. We are honestly grateful for that. Without your feedback we would have taken three times as long to notice what really works.

Then came body care, then the deodorants. Then the Comfort Mousse, the product we still get the most post about. It is used on very dry, sensitive skin, on very dry skin, on children, on adults and quite often simply on heels. Right now it is out of stock, but it is coming back.

And over the past two years something has been added that we would not have expected ourselves: make-up that cares for the skin. Magic Foundation, Wonder Foundation Serum, Perfecting Powder, Tinted Balm.

In the five birthdays before this one there was never more than one gift in the parcel.

We looked it up twice, because we had remembered it wrong. Twice it was a serum, in the other years there was none at all.

This year we turn six. So we are giving away six products. Together that is €175,96. All six hang on your basket and arrive one after another, the first one from €50.

The Active Suncream

It is the youngest product on the shelf and the one we spent the longest on. For six months we tested a mineral version and then dropped it: on the deepest skin tone in our test group we could not get it transparent.

What it does can be told in one picture. Sun above, skin below, and between them two things that behave very differently.

UV-B you can feel: it causes sunburn and stays in the upper layer of the skin. Window glass keeps most of it out. UV-A you cannot feel. It goes through glass, through clouds, through a winter sky, and it goes deeper. Which is why a tube makes as much sense at your desk in the morning as it does on a summer holiday.

Why now — and why afterwards too

Now is the easy part. At the end of August the sun still stands high enough for UV-B to do in a couple of hours what you see in the mirror in the evening.

Afterwards is the part almost everyone leaves out. UV-B drops off in autumn, UV-A does not to the same degree: it comes through clouds and through window glass, so it reaches you on a grey Tuesday at your desk as well. Which is why this tube is not a holiday item. It is the thing that goes on last in the morning, all year round.

We hear that often, and many women with very dry and sensitive skin get on well with our things. But it does not suit everybody, and we are not hiding that. Silke, for example, cannot tolerate the Lash & Brow Treatment on her lashes and now only uses it on her brows. That is why you have 30 days to return with us instead of the statutory 14, so that you can find out in peace whether your skin goes along with it.

That is exactly where most foundations fail on mature skin. In your place we would not have believed it at first either. Our oldest customers tell us the opposite. Six gifts are more than most people use up on their own. They arrive individually wrapped, each one finished as it is.
